The Buffalo Bills are getting praised for a big positive in their lineup that's flying under the radar.
The Buffalo Bills are gearing up for what they hope will be a successful new season, and there’s really no reason why it can’t be. The team has the current MVP winner in Josh Allen, plus they’ve been beefing up their lineup, so there’s lots to look forward to in the coming year from Allen and company.
Going into the new season, a lot of NFL experts and analysts are looking at the NFL teams and making their predictions about what’s to come. When it comes to the Bills, one NFL analyst is pointing out a big strength on the squad.
A Bright Spot for the Buffalo Bills in the New Season
In a June 10 feature for PFF, NFL analyst and writer Dalton Wasserman gives one reason for optimism for each NFL team in 2025. The reasons usually have to do with certain players who are expected to help their teams immensely.
“Every NFL team will enter the 2025 season with a clean slate — no wins, no losses,” he says in the story. “While those records will shift dramatically in the following weeks, each franchise has some hope of finding success until then.”
For the Bills, it’s all about the team’s beefed up defense. He says it’s simply more talented than it was last season.
“Buffalo spent most of its offseason trying to improve a defense that finished 28th in PFF grade last season,” he stated in the piece. “The Bills used free agency to bolster the defensive line with Michael Hoecht, Larry Ogunjobi and Joey Bosa. Further complementing that set of players up front are recent draft picks T.J. Sanders, Landon Jackson and Deone Walker.”
Wasserman adds that “cornerback Maxwell Hairston, is the headliner, though, as he should start at cornerback after posting an 84.8 PFF coverage grade over the past two seasons.”
What Teams May Surprise the NFL in 2025
While the Bills are considered one of the stronger teams in the NFL, there are other teams that are currently flying under the radar that could come up and upset the major players. In a separate June 12 feature for PFF, Wasserman names five teams that are underrated going into the new season. The Bills aren’t on there, of course, because they’re expected to be strong.
“Football prognosticators spend the entire offseason searching for legitimate Super Bowl contenders, as well as those who could be dark horses to make noise in the postseason,” Wasserman notes in the piece. “In the process, some teams get overlooked, whether because of market size or an underestimation of their talent level and ability to win games.”
The teams that could surprise everyone, including the Buffalo Bills, are the Cincinnati Bengals, Dallas Cowboys, Indianapolis Colts, San Francisco 49ers and Seattle Seahawks.
In my opinion, all of those teams make sense, expect for the 49ers, because they’re always favored, it seems, going into a new season. Sure, last season was very rough for them, but I’m still seeing plenty of buzz around that team as being a major contender in 2025.
