Red Sox Reveal Date For Tanner Houck’s First Rehab Start

Boston Red Sox pitcher Tanner Houck is on his way back to the starting rotation.

Houck will begin his long-awaited rehab assignment with Triple-A Worcester on Wednesday, according to Red Sox manager Alex Cora. Houck will throw two-to-three innings in his first appearance since May 12 — which was his last start before being placed on the injured list with a right flexor pronator strain two days later.

It’s the start of what the organization hopes will be a major turnaround for the veteran.

Houck posted an 8.04 ERA through his first nine starts after previously earning All-Star honors in 2024, far and away the worst mark on the team. Boston opted to let him figure things out on the injured list than play through his minor ailment, filling the gaps in the rotation with Sean Newcomb and Richard Fitts before eventually settling on Hunter Dobbins.

Cora said he didn’t anticipate shaking up the rotation during the club’s upcoming road trip, according to Mac Cerullo of the Boston Herald.
