The NBA Finals are still ongoing, but the 28 other teams are already in offseason mode, trying to improve their rosters. As for the Toronto Raptors, they’re just trying to return to contention after winning 30, 25, and 41 games across the past three seasons, missing the playoffs each time.
Yet, it’s not like the Raptors aren’t stocked with talent. Players like Scottie Barnes, Brandon Ingram, RJ Barrett, Jakob Poeltl, Immanuel Quickley, Gradey Dick, and Ochai Agbaji give the Raptors a lot of potential building blocks.
However, according to [ESPN’s Brian Windhorst](https://bleacherreport.com/articles/25208405-raptors-reportedly-lurking-kevin-durant-amid-heat-rockets-spurs-trade-rumors), Toronto could be trying to package a number of its assets in exchange for Kevin Durant.
> “He had a list of teams he preferred to go to. He had one year left on his contract, and the Toronto Raptors were willing to roll the dice as a possible rental. And once again, you don’t see Toronto on Durant’s list, but the Raptors are one of the teams lurking out there, who may be willing to do this without knowing that they can keep Durant on an extension, and basically potentially be a rental. And I think there’s a couple others, including the Los Angeles Clippers, and potentially even the Minnesota Timberwolves. This is still wide open. Maybe Durant gets what he wants, maybe he has to accept something else.”

Durant ending up in Toronto this offseason would certainly be a shock, especially considering this could be the last big contract the 36-year-old lands. With the Raptors missing the playoffs each of the past three years, it’s not hard to see how Durant would prefer to land with a team that has better odds at competing for another NBA championship.
Set to become a free agent next offseason, Durant is eligible to sign a two-year extension starting on July 6.
