Several teams are in the hunt to trade for Kevin Durant, but the New York Knicks aren’t one of them. It’s a bit of a surprise for the big market juggernauts. Yet, after coming off their best season in over two decades, it makes sense that the Knicks wouldn’t want to shake up their core for a soon-to-be 37-year-old.
Then again, Durant is a future first-ballot Hall of Famer who’s still playing at an All-NBA level heading into his 18th season as a pro. If there’s a player worth moving mountains for, it may be Durant.
While the Knicks are said to no longer be pursuing a trade for the 15-time All-Star, [NBA insider Marc Stein](https://bleacherreport.com/articles/25208482-kevin-durant-reportedly-wouldve-put-knicks-top-landing-spots-if-ny-pursued-trade) reports that Durant would have had interest in landing in New York. Though, Durant “omitted” the Knicks from his preferred list of landing spots after the Knicks made it known they wouldn’t be trading for him early in the offseason.
Durant instead reportedly prefers a trade to the Houston Rockets, Miami Heat, or San Antonio Spurs, but other destinations could still be in play. The Phoenix Suns could honor Durant’s wishes, but they don’t have to exclusively negotiate with the teams on his list; they may opt for the trade that returns the best value.
Though, with Durant having just one year left on his contract, the teams who feel like they’ll be able to get Durant to agree to the two-year extension he becomes eligible for in the first week of July may be the ones who present the best offer.
