West Ham are one of several clubs looking to sign this striker as the summer transfer window kicks on.
West Ham are looking to bring in some new attacking talent this summer, with uncertainties surrounding their current centre-forwards.
Danny Ings is set to leave the club as a free agent following the expiration of his contract and Evan Ferguson will also depart after an unsuccessful loan spell. Michail Antonio’s situation is a little different to others nearing the end of their terms.
The club has confirmed ‘no formal decision’ will be announced regarding his position at the club until the time is appropriate to do so, following his serious road traffic accident in December.
As for last summer’s new signing Niclas Fullkrug, he has struggled to make his mark on the team. The Irons bought him less than a year ago for £27 million but he missed 19 Premier League games in his debut season due to injury and managed just three goals.
West Ham on the market for a new striker
The report claims that West Ham are among the multiple English clubs who have an eye on the 23-year-old this summer. Arsenal, Liverpool, Brighton and Everton are also keen on Woltemade, as all mentioned clubs look to bolster their options up front.
Overseas, Bayern Munich, Atletico Madrid, Napoli and Roma are all in the frame as well. Woltemade will reportedly cost in the region of €50 million (£42m) this summer. The 23-year-old only signed for current side VfB Stuttgart last summer, so they are in no rush to cash in.
However, with so much interest shown in the 23-year-old, West Ham will need a plan in place to beat the opposition to his signature. Everton are in a similar situation, in need of new striker options as Dominic Calvert-Lewin prepares to leave the club as a free agent.
Would Nick Woltemade be a good signing for West Ham?
West Ham are in need of some new attacking options and Woltemade could be a good addition to the club.
The German contributed 17 goals in all competitions last season, which is a solid return for a striker in a club that finished ninth in the Bundesliga table.
Woltemade has never played in the Premier League before, or indeed out of Germany at all during his career. There is a lot of pressure that comes with first-timers in England’s top flight, as a lot of players struggle to adapt to the demands of highly sought-after league.
However, after contributing one of the fewest goal returns in the Premier League last season, they’re going to need to take a chance somewhere and bring in a striker who will make a difference. The fact that the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool are showing interest in Woltemade is a big green flag for West Ham - ‘if it’s good enough for them, it’s good enough for us’ kind of approach.
The Irons must move fast though, as Everton are in urgent need of a new centre-forward and could well pip them to the punch.
