Club chief makes six-word transfer admission after Bayern held talks to sign 31-goal Chelsea target

It is not a secret anymore that Bayern Munich are looking to bolster their attacking areas in the summer transfer window.

The Bavarian giants have already been linked with a host of players, but Nico Williams, who is also being pursued by Chelsea and Arsenal, remains their top target.

Max Eberl, Bayern’s head of Sport, has reacted to the transfer rumour in the mixed zone on Sunday after the German giants won 10-0 against Auckland City.

Williams could be in hot demand in the summer window, and Chelsea are vying for his signature.

Fabrizio Romano told DAZN earlier this month that Williams is a “dream target” for Chelsea. But the Blues are likely to face strong competition from Bayern.

Leroy Sane has reached an agreement to join Galatasaray, while Kingsley Coman, who made history against Auckland City on Sunday, is facing an uncertain future.

Bayern have shown interest in AC Milan’s Rafael Leao and Liverpool’s Cody Gakpo, but Williams is the one they desperately want.

Eberl, however, remained coy when asked about Williams.

“I don’t know anything about that,” said Eberl, as shared by Maximilian Koch.

Nico Williams would be top signing for Bayern

Don’t read too much into Eberl’s reply. He was never going to discuss players from other clubs openly out of respect.

Christian Falk told CFBayern that Eberl had already met with Williams’ officials in Munich, and preliminary talks had been held.

The Spaniard has scored 31 goals in all competitions for Athletic Bilbao since making his senior debut in 2020, and he would be a cracking signing for any club.

Bayern will not face problems matching his £51m release clause, but his £20m-per-year salary demands could prove to be a major stumbling block.
