Man Utd 'open talks with striker's agents' after Viktor Gyokeres setback

Manchester United have moved quickly to target another European striker after being rejected by Sporting CP star Viktor Gyokeres. The Swedish striker, who scored 54 goals in 52 club games last season, was outlined by Ruben Amorim as the man to add the clinical edge that was so badly lacking from his side last season.

However, this week, the 27-year-old has made it clear he has no desire to head to Old Trafford. Arsenal are now the favourites for his signature, leaving United having to look elsewhere. They now appear to have reacted by turning their focus to the Bundesliga.

According to Sky Germany, the club is in talks with representatives of Eintracht Frankfurt forward Hugo Ekitike. United have reportedly made their interest in the 22-year-old clear despite him being contracted to the German club until 2029.

Transfer chiefs are also said to have spoken to the player himself. However, no decision from either party has seemingly been made over a sale, with Liverpool and Chelsea still in the frame for his signature.

Ekikite joined Frankfurt from PSG in February 2024, initially on a short-term loan deal. At the end of the campaign, he made his move permanent for a £14million fee.

The French under-21 international went on to score 22 times at club level last season. His goalscoring form, ability to dribble past defenders at speed, and link-up play have won him many plaudits in Germany.
