Tino Livramento again was the standout player for England on Sunday afternoon, but was left frustrated in his second Euro Under-21 outing
Following on from their opening group game win against Czechia, which saw our fullback win the Player of the Match, hopes were high that the Young Lions could guarantee qualification with another three points.
Instead, a relatively limp and lifeless performance saw England move up to 4 points, with a high stakes game against Germany on the horizon.
Needing to avoid defeat to progress, Toon fans can once again expect Livramento to play a prominent role on Wednesday night.
Tino Livramento played the full 90 minutes as England were forced to settle for a 0-0 draw against a stubborn Slovenia side.
England enjoyed early chances through James McAtee and Jonathan Rowe, but couldn’t find the opener.
At the other end of the pitch, Brighton goalkeeper James Beadle was kept busy as the underdogs threatened an upset with some long range efforts and threatening counter-attacks, stopping Svit Sešlar on multiple occasions.
Livramento’s post-match stats make for some incredibly positive reading: With another 90 minutes played, he recorded 82 touches, a 97% pass completion rate, nine recoveries and two chances created, there’s not a lot more he could do besides score.
Regardless of Germany’s result against Czechia, the mission remains the same for Lee Carsley and co.
A point against Germany will be enough to see them through, but a defeat could potentially lead to us finishing level on four points with Slovakia, again depending on their own results, but they’ll need a massive swing in the goal difference to knock us out of the tournament.
So with such high stakes, you can expect Livramento to again be part of a near unchanged XI on Wednesday night, though it’ll be a big task ahead against Nick Woltemade.
If England can finish first remember, there’s a possible chance of Livramento playing Denmark and Will Osula in the final, should results go completely in our young Mags’ favour.
