Man City have made a final decision about their pursuit of Nottingham Forest star Morgan Gibbs-White during the summer transfer window.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed what his sources have said about the 25-year-old’s future.

Following the arrivals of Rayan Cherki and Tijjani Reijnders, City’s interest in Gibbs-White has cooled, and Forest’s £70million valuation is thought to be a large factor.

former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider on 17 April that Forest are determined to keep Gibbs-White and would hold crunch talks over his future.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side remain determined to keep hold of their star man ahead of their participation in the Europa Conference League next season.

However, Brown also told Football Insider on 10 June that Chelsea could move to sign Gibbs-White after the door was left open by Man City’s decision.

Man City respond as Nottingham Forest make Gibbs-White demand

Football Insider exclusively revealed on 16 May that Nottingham Forest may have to sell prized assets amid ongoing concerns about profit and sustainability.

However, those concerns were not enough for them to lower their steep asking price and they were successful in attempts to put City off of a move.

O’Rourke explained that, having looked elsewhere in the market, Pep Guardiola’s side are unlikely to renew their interest in a huge boost to Forest.

“*I think their interest has cooled in Gibbs-White,*” he told Football Insider.

“He was one of their prime targets to replace Kevin de Bruyne, but they’ve obviously brought in Reijnders now and Rayan Cherki.

“His price tag was prohibitive to Manchester City pursuing their interest.

“Forest were very reluctant to lose their key man and I think putting a price tag of £70million plus on him was probably a bit too rich for Man City.

“They brought in Reijnders, who had a very good season for Milan, and Cherki, who looks a very exciting player as well.

“So yeah, I think that interest for now is definitely cooled.

“That can only be positive news for Nottingham Forest that Man City are no longer in the race to sign Gibbs-White this summer.”

Kyle Walker update emerges after Guardiola bust-up

Incoming deals are not the only focus at the Etihad as things stand, as Guardiola remains determined to clear some of the dead wood from his squad.

Football Insider revealed on 15 June that Kyle Walker has “no way back” at City after falling out with the manager when he pursued a move to Milan in January.

AC Milan opted not to sign the right-back following an unsuccessful loan spell, but a number of Premier League and European clubs are considering their options.

Former Man City financial adviser Stefan Borson told Football Insider on 22 April that Walker will need to take a pay cut to leave the Etihad.
