Liverpool sent transfer warning as Man United make contact with 'special' Reds target - journalist

Liverpool have kicked off the window in perfect fashion. They could, however, now be set to lose one of their top targets to their fiercest rivals.

With Jeremie Frimpong already through the door and Florian Wirtz’s £116m move waiting to be announced, Liverpool have gone big so far.

FSG, though, aren’t stopping there, with Milos Kerkez’s arrival also expected in the coming days.

As well as defence, the striker position also looks set to be revamped as Liverpool’s links with Hugo Ekitike refuse to go away.

Any move for the Frenchman, though, could soon be thwarted following growing interest from elsewhere.

Liverpool have made no contact with Frankfurt as of yet, but they could soon be sprung into action following a twist in the Ekitike saga.

According to Florian Plettenberg on X, Premier League rivals Man United have made contact with the attacker’s camp over the weekend and have expressed ‘concrete’ interest.

Whilst no deal is yet to be struck, the Red Devils are in contact with both club and player, leaving Liverpool’s chances of signing the Frenchman hanging in the balance.

The Reds, as well as Chelsea, are both reportedly still in the race, but the ball is now in FSG’s court.

Liverpool would be wise to table Ekitike offer

With defensive reinforcements and an attacking midfielder already through the door, many see a striker as the final piece in the puzzle for Liverpool.

Ekitike has been labelled a ‘special’ forward, and he would no doubt be an upgrade on Arne Slot’s current striker options.

Having seen Man United make the first move, FSG would be wise to test the waters with an offer of their own.
