The 2024/25 PL champions, Liverpool are shaking up the transfer market once again.
Liverpool have been told that only a massive £75m bid will unlock a deal for Anthony Gordon this summer.
Liverpool Planning Bold Move For Anthony Gordon
They have already smashed their transfer record for Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz. The Reds agreed to pay a whopping £100m up front. In addition, the bonuses potentially will push it up to £128m. That easily beats their previous record fee of £75 million paid for Virgil van Dijk in 2018.
Now, Reds are reportedly preparing to spend big again. This time they’re targeting Newcastle United’s Anthony Gordon. Talks between the two clubs have been reignited. The Reds are seriously weighing up another £100m offer for the England winger, as per The Sun.
Anthony made the switch from Everton to Newcastle for £45m in 2024. He had a very solid year last year, contributing six goals and five assists on a journey to the UCL for the Magpies.
Slot’s Summer Spree Sends a Strong Message
It seems like Liverpool might go through with another nine-figure deal. It sends a loud warning to their Premier League and European rivals. The Reds mean business under new boss Arne Slot. The club has already locked in key signings like Jeremie Frimpong. And Milos Kerkez as a potential long-term option for Andrew Robertson. He may be moving to Atletico Madrid this summer.
Meanwhile, Darwin Nunez is likely to leave. Now, Slot is also in the hunt for a new striker. Names like Isak, Sesko, and Joao Pedro are on the list. The interest in Gordon also raises doubts about Luis Diaz’s future at Anfield, especially with ongoing links to Barcelona.
If the deal happens, the Newcastle winger would likely slot in on the left flank. He will be offering more raw pace and a direct threat. That is possibly more suited to Slot’s style of play than Diaz.
