Liverpool join Chelsea in race to sign teenage midfielder

Premier League clubs are once again able to sign players after the transfer window reopened on Monday.

This summer the window had opened earlier than usual in order to allow clubs competing in the FIFA Club World Cup to register new signings before the tournament began.

Champions Liverpool have already added Jeremie Frimpong to Arne Slot’s squad, following the departure of Trent Alexander-Arnold at the end of last season.

Now, it has emerged that the Merseyside outfit have joined the race to sign a highly-rated young Englishman.

According to CaughtOffside, Liverpool are the latest club to show interest in Southampton midfielder Tyler Dibling.

The 19-year-old enjoyed an impressive campaign for the Saints last term, despite their relegation from the top flight.

Dibling scored four goals and provided three assists in 38 games across all competitions last term, and his impressive displays have attracted interest from several sides.

Chelsea, Manchester United, Newcastle United, Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur have all also been credited with an interest in the youngster, who can also play on the right flank.

German side RB Leipzig have also had an offer for the teenager rejected in recent months, but it remains to be seen whether or not the Bundesliga side will reignite their interest.

Dibling is under contract at St. Mary’s until the end of the 2026/27 campaign, but the report suggests that he is likely to leave the south coast side this summer following Southampton’s relegation back to The Championship.

It is claimed that Southampton value the player at around £50 million, although it isn’t yet clear whether or not the likes of Liverpool and Chelsea will realise their interest in him.
