Newcastle United forward William Osula scored a brace on Sunday night to help Denmark reach the knockout stages of the Under-21 European Championships.
It has not been the most memorable season for him on the pitch, but William Osula will still be pleased with what the club have achieved while he has been there.
The 21-year-old was limited to just 14 Premier League appearances in his first season with Newcastle United, with all of them being from the bench. While he may not be best pleased with his lack of starts, he can take pride in the fact that he managed to score in the Premier League, unlike fellow striker Callum Wilson.
Osula scored in Denmark’s opening game at the Under-21 European Championships and bagged an assist to help his country come back from behind to beat Ukraine.
On Sunday, Osula scored twice against the Netherlands to confirm Denmark’s place in the knockout stages with a game to spare. Newcastle fans think Osula is good enough to play more often next season, but it is clear that Eddie Howe has a big decision to make with the youngster ahead of such an important campaign.

Newcastle United should loan out William Osula for the 2025/26 season
Having joined the Magpies for around £10m in 2024, it is clear that Newcastle have high hopes for Osula in the future. However, it is very difficult to see him getting consistent game time on Tyneside next season.
Newcastle want to sign a striker in the summer transfer window, and have already set their eyes on Brighton’s Joao Pedro, who has asked to leave the Seagulls. His possible arrival would mean that Osula remains the third-choice striker at Newcastle, jeopardising his chances of starting for the Magpies in any competition.
It has been reported that Newcastle do not want to loan Osula out this summer, but it looks to be the best option for him to help his development.

At such a young age, he needs to be exposed to first-team football as much as possible. It is one thing to watch from the bench or get a rare substitute appearance, but the older he gets, the more he will want to start games.
There was reported interest in the Dane from the Championship, while Celta Vigo placed a loan offer for Osula, which was seemingly turned down late in the January transfer window. Should any other clubs make enquiries this summer, Howe should take a much more open approach to the striker’s future.

Osula could act as a secret weapon for Newcastle, who are interested in signing Nottingham Forest star Anthony Elanga this summer. The pair seem to be good friends and regularly engage with each other on social media.
On Sunday, Elanga commented on Osula’s Instagram post to congratulate him for his brace against the Netherlands.

They are through to the quarter-finals, but Denmark still have one game left before playing in the knockout stages. Osula’s Denmark face Finland on Wednesday, 18 June, with the game set to kick off at 5pm.
Osula will be eager to feature once again after his heroics against Ukraine and the Netherlands, but the Denmark head coach could look to rest him with their group stage effectively done and dusted.
