Deal on? Anthony Elanga sends fresh nine-word Newcastle United hint as supporters get excited

Newcastle United are interested in Nottingham Forest winger Anthony Elanga.

Anthony Elanga has hinted he “cannot say too much” while congratulating William Osula on his brace for Denmark.

Two goals against the Netherlands completed a 2-1 comeback win and fired Osula to the top of the goalscoring charts at the under-21 Euros. Newcastle United paid £15million to sign the youngster a year ago.

Eyebrows were raised at the former Sheffield United man’s underwhelming goal record. However, the Magpies signed Osula based on his attributes and his high ceiling as a forward.

Will Osula versatility

A raw talent, the 21-year-old is tall, direct, pacy and has a keen eye for goal. He can operate as a No.9 or out wide and, at the back end of the campaign, gave Toon fans a glimpse of his qualities.

Osula scored his first Premier League goal against Ipswich Town in April - with fans clamouring for him to get more opportunities. Eddie Howe is renowned for easing youngsters into the Toon ranks and moulding them into his philosophy gradually.

Anthony Elanga congratulates Will Osula

For the second time in four days, reported Newcastle target Elanga congratulated Osula on scoring at the under-21 Euros. The duo appear to have struck up a kinship in recent weeks - although it is unclear how.

Elanga does represent Sweden alongside Newcastle talisman Alexander Isak but has no clear link to Osula. Many have questioned whether this is the Forest man - valued at £50million - fuelling speculation on his future.

The Magpies tried to sign the winger last summer with a desperate deadline-day bid. That was swiftly rejected and Elanga went on to play a key role as Forest qualified for the Conference League.

He has now given a nine-word message to Osula that Newcastle fans are taking as a huge hint on his future. Elanga wrote: “Not gonna say too much… keep going my boy.”

‘A lot of talk’ - Anthony Elanga

Elanga directly responded to the Newcastle rumours a fortnight ago. He told Swedish media: “There is a lot of talk. I focus on what I can do and my focus today was on the match. In football, there are always rumours. The most important thing is that I focus on what I can control.

“I guess there will always be scouts wherever I play as long as I stay focused and do my best in the match. I just keep my focus and what I can control. That’s what I can do on and off the field. I focus on the next day and action. That’s what I can do.”
