Bryan Mbeumo has stressed he 'really can't talk' about his future.

Mbeumo has been a man in demand after Liverpool talisman Mohamed Salah and Newcastle United star Alexander Isak were the only players to have more goal involvements in the Premier League last season.

No wonder Mbeumo was among Newcastle's top targets, but the Brentford forward's wage demands proved a major stumbling block for the Magpies, who spent less on salaries than six of their rivals in top-flight clubs' most recently released set of financial accounts.

Mbeumo has also privately intimated that he wants to join Manchester United, but the Cameroon star has otherwise stayed tight-lipped on his future.

In fact, before an interview with Sky Sports at the Canadian Grand Prix, Mbeumo insisted off camera that he 'really can't talk about that'.

Mbeumo only briefly touched on a summer of intense speculation by saying it was 'a bit new' for him and that he 'had to accept it'.

Manchester United had an opening offer of £45m plus £10m in add-ons turned down by Brentford and the Red Devils face competition from Spurs as new boss Thomas Frank targets a swift reunion with Mbeumo.

"He's done so much for me," Mbeumo said of his former manager at the weekend. "He trusted me from the start and developed the team so well.

"He developed me as a human and so much as a player as well. I can only wish him all the best and I'm sure he's going to do well.

"I think he knows everything. He's really smart. He knows where he wants to bring the team, how he wants to play. He's been fantastic for Brentford.

"I think he's going to have some time to adapt, obviously. Now it's going to change for him. UCL games, more expectations, but I'm sure he's going to do well. He knows how to talk to people. He knows how to build a group."
