Throwaway striker remark | Very big news for West Ham fans

Time and again West Ham are linked with strikers of differing ages and values, from the ‘freebies’ to the ‘fantasies’. And with the start of the second window of summer, we have until the start of September to conclude business so I guess there’s a lot more ‘linking’ going to happen between now and the start of the season.

However much Potter and Macaulay suggest a different way of sourcing players, without the” usual agents ” getting involved, seasoned Hammers’ fans and watchers alike still comment that they are expecting the club to back-slide and revert to signing old journeymen – irrespctive of how much the club is ‘linked’ with new young talent.

There was a very interesting comment made by a club spokesman yesterday which didn’t really get picked up: In response to the hammers.news story regarding Dominic Calvert Lewin, West Ham’s ‘top spokesman’ went on to dismiss the rumours of West Ham being linked with the injury-prone Everton hit-man who has missed more than two full seasons out injured.

But if you look at the full quote, there is a reference to another ‘free’ transfer which West Ham’s more cynical fans have been dreading – Callum Wilson the perennial free signing, seemingly perpetually linked with West Ham.

And there is good news on the Callum Wilson front. Finally. Irrevocably. The exact words to shoot down the talk of Calvert Lewin coming to West Ham on £100k+ a week, but read the whole sentence:

“The injuries are the problem. When you need him, he’s not available, much like [Callum] Wilson of Newcastle.”

Which finally, absolutely, permanently kills off any prospect of the Newcastle veteran turning up on a ‘free’, same as it ends speculation surrounding Calvert-Lewin himself.

From where West Ham will end up sourcing a striker or two- not sure yet . Who’s responsible for changing David Sullivan’s habits of lifetime – who knows.

Doesn’t matter. No Calvert Lewin, No Callum Wilson. Good news indeed for a Monday.
