Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe will be turning his sole focus onto transfers again this week after the summer transfer window reopened on Monday morning.
Last Tuesday, the market temporarily closed for clubs across the world after the unprecedented early window closed. The first part of the summer transfer window was created by FIFA this year after they decided to expand the Club World Cup to 32 teams.
The early window allowed teams competing in the competition to make new additions to their squad before the tournament. However, all clubs were allowed to do business, even if they were not competing in the United States.
Now that period is over, the transfer window has settled into business as usual and ChronicleLive has taken a look at six deals that the Magpies could make this week to get things moving.
James Trafford
Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford excelled in the Championship last season and his ability will likely transfer into the Premier League. It appears that the Magpies are willing to take that gamble after reports last week that they had opened talks with the England international.
If they were to complete that deal this week, it would lead to uncertainty surrounding the future of Nick Pope. He has been heavily linked with a move to new boys Leeds United but may be more inclined to go back to Turf Moor if Trafford were to switch to St James' Park.
Marc Guehi
Crystal Palace's centre-back has long been on Newcastle's radar after the club made a huge play for him last summer. Little has changed in United's admiration for Marc Guehi - they still want a centre-back only now they can offer him Champions League football.
Palace's qualification to the Europa League could complicate matters but Howe will be hoping he can paint a positive vision for the England international this summer.
Joao Pedro
Joao Pedro has spoken with Newcastle before and it is believed he has a desire to play alongside Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton domestically, so surely the club have a decent chance of achieving a move. It is understood that the Magpies are confident of getting a deal done for the Brighton and Hove Albion striker.
It is understood that Pedro is potentially unhappy on the south coast and wishes to pursue a new challenge with Newcastle. The lure of Champions League football could get this deal done quickly.
Callum Wilson
The striker has been offered a new deal by Newcastle this summer but whether he signs it is another question. The 33-year-old will be a back-up option at best for the Magpies if he were to stay in the north east and, at his age, it is unclear if he is happy to accept that fate.
Leeds are currently linked with his signature as they look to bolster their options ahead of a gruelling Premier League campaign.
John Ruddy
Newcastle's third-choice goalkeeper has also been offered a new deal but there are no guarantees that he shall sign either. If Pope was not to leave this summer, Once that deal is done, expected to be this week, Newcastle may be able to press ahead with an approach for Elliott.
At 38, Ruddy may feel that he can offer something more than a fourth-choice option in the Premier League. Perhaps a move down the pyramid could be a good move to finish his career.
Harvey Elliott
Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliott may be at the U21 Euros currently but speculation surrounding his future is bound to increase this week when Florian Wirtz is confirmed as moving to Merseyside. Once that deal is done, expected to be this week, Newcastle may be able to press ahead with an approach for Elliott.
The Premier League champions will need to offload midfielders from their squad with Wirtz coming in and Elliott is highly likely to be an option that they will explore. While there is only a small chance this deal could be done this week, Newcastle could be keen to get that move sorted quickly.
