Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca has commented on the rumours linking his club with a move for AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan.
In the past couple of weeks there have been intense rumours regarding Maignan joining Chelsea. Several major sources even claimed that the Frenchman was pushing for the move, having been frustrated over the lack of renewal news from Milan. However, things then hit the buffers.
It seems that the Premier League side submitted a take it or leave it bid to try and get Maignan through the door before the Club World Cup, which has just starting in the USA. It was not accepted, and now there is talk of Massimiliano Allegri trying to reopen the renewal route.
Maresca responds
Maresca spoke at a press conference ahead of Chelsea’s FIFA Club World Cup debut against Los Angeles FC, confirming among other things that Maignan will not join him in London. His comments were relayed by Calciomercato.com.
“Robert Sanchez is number one, we have Filip Jorgensen as number two. Penders will join us in the next few weeks to analyse him, judge him and make a final decision. Then, for Maignan or other players, I don’t think it’s worth talking about,” he said.
