On the interior, Graham, Collins and Hall are safe. Jowon Briggs should be a in a great spot to make the roster since he's the other heavy run stopper that can play the nose. He's also coming off an impressive stretch to end last season. Huntington could be trying to steal a spot from the soon to be 34-year old Shelby Harris.
In order for that to happen, Huntington is going to have try to address some of his weaknesses, which are likely to be exploited when the pads come on. Huntington's explosion and power are fantastic, but he's not great with his hands at this point. He's stubby with 32" arms. So if he's unable to get quick penetration with his initial get off or quick footwork, he's left to try to wrestle and overpower the blocker. He's a load, so that can produce a beneficial impact on its own.
However, that's not what Schwartz wants from these players. He wants his guys to be able to consistently defeat one-on-one's that the unit will face because Myles Garrett is taking up so much attention. The athleticism is exciting, so it will be interesting to see if Huntington can show development with his hand usage. That might be the main focus for his training for the six weeks until training camp.
Huntington will also need to prove himself against better competition higher on the depth chart. If he can progress and get his shot against the first team offensive line, it will be worth monitoring how he performs. If he's still able to create his share of splash plays, that's when the conversation about a roster spot would begin.
Still, there's plenty to be intrigued to watch with Huntington. If he can lock down a roster spot, it would further turn over the defensive line and make the unit younger, potentially built to last. Along with Mason Graham, that would give the Browns two rookies from this draft class, potentially two from last year with Hall and Briggs, plus Isaiah McGuire in 2023 who has a chance to be a breakout star.
There probably isn't a more difficult position group for an undrafted rookie to crack, but Adin Huntington's talent might make it interesting.
