Newcastle United were linked with Bryan Mbeumo before his Manchester United preference became clear.
Bryan Mbeumo believes transfer speculation is part and parcel of life as a Premier League footballer.
Newcastle United were one of several top-flight clubs understood to be chasing the winger. The Magpies have not signed a right-sided attacker - Yankuba Minteh aside - since the takeover.
Jacob Murphy is the sole Toon player who naturally plays on the right flank. Mbeumo registered 28 Premier League goal contributions last season to fill the void left by Ivan Toney.
Brentford are understood to be wanting around £60million for the 25-year-old. Newcastle had been linked until various sources named Manchester United are his preferred destination.
However, Thomas Frank leaving Brentford for Tottenham Hotspur has thrown a spanner in the works. Spurs are now understood to be rivalling the Red Devils for the Cameroon international.
Bryan Mbeumo on dealing with speculation
Speaking to Sky Sports, Brentford winger Mbeumo admitted the intense speculation regarding his future being a new experience. He said: "It (transfer speculation) is a bit new for me I would say! I think it can be the life of a footballer, and you need to accept it.
“It's been my best season so far in the Premier League. And even collectively, I think we did play very good games. I think we've been unlucky to chase the Europe spot, but I think it's been a fantastic season.
Bryan Mbeumo hails Thomas Frank
The Brentford ace also expects Frank to become a success at Tottenham after seven years in West London. Mbeumo added: "He's done so much for me. He literally trusted me from the start. I think he developed the team so well.
"He developed me as a human and a player as well. So I can only wish him all the best, and I'm sure he's going to do well. I think he knows everything. He's really smart. He knows where he wants to bring the team and how he wants to play. I think he's been fantastic for Brentford.
"I think he's going to have some time to adapt, obviously. (Champions League) games, more expectations, as you said, but I'm sure he's going to do well. He knows how to talk to people. He knows how to build a group. And that's why we've been playing so well."

Thomas Frank makes Brentford admission
Frank, while still at Brentford, conceded they are a selling club and may need to offload Mbeumo. He said: "I'm the head coach. I want my best players to stay forever. I know that Bryan is very happy being here at Brentford, he's thriving, doing well and playing fantastic. What happens in the future? I don't know.
"I've said many times: we are a selling club. But at the same time, we have to reinforce that there are 10 clubs in the world that aren't selling clubs. So of course, if the right price - and that's going to be expensive - is coming, then I'm sure the club will be open for it. But I'm very happy he's here, and I'm convinced that Bryan will still be happy playing football here."
