Andre Onana has given Bryan Mbeumo a nudge towards Manchester United amidst the Red Devils' keen interest in the Brentford striker.

Despite Tottenham Hotspur's late bid, Mbeumo is set on a move to United, with Cameroon teammate Onana playing a part in his decision.

The duo were absent from international duty for Cameroon's recent friendlies against Uganda and Equatorial Guinea, last sharing the pitch during their national team's World Cup qualifying victory over Libya in March.

Onana is tipped to stick with United despite a rocky first two seasons. The former Inter Milan goalie shares a solid rapport with United's gaffer Ruben Amorim.

United players have a long-standing tradition of using national team meet-ups to coax international teammates into joining the club. Notably, Erik ten Hag recently brought six of his former Ajax charges to United, reports the Manchester Evening News.

Insiders reveal that Spurs are hot on Mbeumo's heels following Thomas Frank's switch from Brentford to take the managerial reins. Frank mentored Mbeumo for six years as Brentford cemented their Premier League status.

United's £45million plus £10m add-ons bid for Mbeumo was knocked back by Brentford. The forward's contract expires next year, but there's an option to extend it until 2027.

Brentford ace Bryan Mbeumo, spotted at the Canadian Grand Prix, opened up to Sky Sports about the swirling transfer rumours. "It is a bit new for me, I would say! I think it can be the life of a footballer and you need to accept it."

He also took a moment to heap praise on his gaffer, Thomas Frank: "He (Frank)'s done so much for me.

"He literally trusted me from the start. I think he developed the team so well. He developed me as a human and a player as well."

Mbeumo then sent his best wishes to his mentor, confident in his future success: "So I can only wish him all the best, and I'm sure he's going to do well."
