Exclusive: Everton identify Kai Havertz 2.0 as a Thierno Barry alternative, talks have taken place

TBR Football can now exclusively provide the latest transfer news out of Everton.

Sources shared on Sunday that Everton are in talks to sign Thierno Barry from Villarreal as David Moyes targets a new striker this summer, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin likely to leave when his contract expires at the end of June.

Newcastle are considering a move to sign Calvert-Lewin if the England international does end up leaving on a free transfer.

As talks over Barry continue, TBR Football understand Everton have also been working on a deal to sign Nick Woltemade from VfB Stuttgart.

Everton have done groundwork on Nick Woltemade deal

Graeme Bailey – Chief Correspondent for TBR Football – has now been told that Everton have carried out plenty of groundwork on a move for the Germany international across recent months.

Woltemade – who was playing in the 3.Liga as recently as 2023, Germany’s third division – burst onto the scene last season with 17 goals in 33 appearances for VfB Stuttgart, earning his first two caps for Germany as a result during the recent UEFA Nations League clashes against Portugal and France.

We understand VfB Stuttgart have already started talks with the 23-year-old over a new contract, with a host of other Premier League clubs also expressing interest alongside Everton.

Sources state that Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester United, Aston Villa, Newcastle, Brentford, Crystal Palace and Leeds have all scouted Woltemade in the past few months, although VfB Stuttgart are confident of keeping their talisman this summer.

Nick Woltemade has been compared to Arsenal star Kai Havertz

The aforementioned Bailey says: “Woltemade was already well known to a host of clubs. I am told many clubs feel he has a ‘touch of Kai Havertz’ about him.

“Everton like him a lot and have done work on him for a number of months, but they are not alone.

“We can confirm that Stuttgart are making good progress with talks. It is possible that his form at the European U21 Championship complicates things, or at the very least might add some euros to his contract.”

As Bailey mentions, Woltemade is currently shining at the European U21 Championship for Germany – which he travelled to despite now being a full, senior international.

The Berlin-born striker scored a hat-trick in the opening game, a 3-0 win over Slovenia, before scoring another and assisting two goals in a 4-2 victory over the Czech Republic last time out.
