Veteran Pistons playmaker linked as Damian Lillard replacement

The Milwaukee Bucks are reportedly eyeing veteran point guard Dennis Schroder as a potential replacement for the injured Damian Lillard this offseason.

Detroit Pistons point guard Dennis Schroder is set to become a free agent this summer, and he's already being linked to an Eastern Conference contender.

According to Tim Bontemps and Brian Windhorst of ESPN, Schroder is one of the players the Milwaukee Bucks could target in the offseason.

With star guard Damian Lillard sidelined due to an Achilles injury, the Bucks are expected to be in the market for a starting-caliber point guard.

Schroder is among several names being considered, along with fellow free agents Tyus Jones and Malcolm Brogdon.

"Rival teams suspect the Bucks will end up in the tax but keep their payroll below the $196 million first apron, which would open their ability to access more of the $14 million midlevel exception," ESPN reported. "They might need a large chunk of it for a starting point guard in place of Lillard."

Schroder began the 2024–25 season with the Golden State Warriors before being traded to the Pistons, where he played a key role in helping Detroit return to the playoffs.

In 28 games with the Pistons, the 31-year-old averaged 10.8 points, 2.6 rebounds, 5.2 assists, and 0.5 steals per game.

Meanwhile, the Bucks are also facing uncertainty with Giannis Antetokounmpo, who has been linked to several trade rumors. If Milwaukee loses Giannis this offseason, their status as a title contender could quickly fade.
