Man United are set to step up their interest in Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez, according to their former chief scout.

Mick Brown, who worked at Old Trafford for over a decade during the club’s most successful period and remains very well-connected there, exclusively told Football Insider that the 32-year-old is Ruben Amorim’s top target in his position.

This comes after Andre Onana confessed [via the Mail]: “Will I leave? I don’t know. We’ll see,” amid ongoing speculation about his future at United.

Brown told Football Insider in April that Man United will accept offers for Onana and have priced him at around £50million amid interest from Saudi Pro League clubs.

As a result, they have turned their attentions towards Martinez, who is widely expected to leave Villa Park this summer after a change of agents.

Football Insider exclusively revealed that Martinez is ready to leave Aston Villa and has hired super-agent Jorge Mendes to help him secure a transfer.

Emi Martinez to quit Aston Villa for Man United after agent twist

Brown told Football Insider that Martinez’s agents are pushing to leave Villa, with suitors in Saudi Arabia and across Europe being considered.

The former scout, who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment and also worked for the likes of Villa, West Ham and Tottenham, explained that the goalkeeper’s agent is well-connected at United and the move is very much on the cards.

“Emi Martinez is going to be available from Aston Villa,” he told Football Insider.

“He’s going to be among the top targets for Ruben Amorim if he decides he wants to strengthen in goal.

“He recently changed agents, he’s with Jorge Mendes now who has very strong connections at United.

“The problem at the moment is that none of that matters unless they get an offer for Onana.

“He’s admitted he isn’t sure about his future at the club, and I think they would be happy to move him on, but it depends if there is any interest.

“There are no offers on the table at the moment, so it’s all just a possibility.

“But he’s a player they want, so if they can move Onana on, he’s the one they’ll go for.”

Alejandro Garnacho update emerges at Old Trafford

Onana is not the only regular starter in line to leave Old Trafford this summer amid ongoing speculation surrounding Alejandro Garnacho’s future.

Brown told Football Insider on 14 June that Garnacho wants to remain in the Premier League and there is no shortage of interest in the 20-year-old.

Following a bust-up with Amorim over his role in the squad, the Argentina international is widely expected to walk away from United this summer.

This comes after Football Insider revealed that Garnacho is still in high demand despite his falling-out with Amorim, with multiple clubs keeping tabs on his situation.
