Kevin Durant trade rumors: Latest intel on potential Miami Heat offer

The Phoenix Suns started seeking out a Kevin Durant trade in February, with the All-Star forward preventing a deal in February and now helping facilitate one this offseason. With the 2025 NBA Draft just over a week away, there are more developments regarding the trade market for the future Hall of Famer.

Sam Amick, Kelly Iko and Jon Krawczynski of The Athletic first reported over the weekend that Durant prefers a trade either to the Houston Rockets or the San Antonio Spurs. Shams Charania of ESPN then reported that the Miami Heat are also on that list of teams, with NBA insider Marc Stein later writing that Durant would’ve included the New York Knicks, but didn’t because they decided against pursuing him this summer.

It had been previously reported that a deal could’ve been made as soon as this weekend, but negotiations are still ongoing. Regarding trade talks between specific clubs, Krwaczynski wrote for The Athletic that “nothing is close” on a deal between Minnesota and Phoenix.

The Athletic added further detail about negotiations between the Rockets and Suns. Phoenix and Houston have reportedly been in contact about a Durant trade for more than a year, frequently exchanging different frameworks for potential deals. This offseason, one prominent name that the Suns have focused on is forward Jabari Smith Jr. However, the Rockets’ front office is heavily reluctant to break up its core.

On Saturday, NBA insider Jake Fischer wrote that Miami’s offer could “prove to be the most enticing” to Phoenix. The Heat have reportedly expressed some willingness to trade Kel’El Ware in a package deal for Durant. Ware, a 7-foot center, was the 15th overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft and earned NBA All-Rookie Second Team honors this past season.

Multiple teams, including the Spurs and Toronto Raptors, are still involved in trade talks for Durant. While a deal might not necessarily happen in the next 48 hours, the Suns are expected to move Durant before the 2025 NBA Draft on Wednesday, June 25.
