Former Manchester City defender Aleixandri completes Barcelona move

Former Manchester City defender Laia Aleixandri has completed her move to Spanish champions FC Barcelona.

The Catalan club announced news of the deal via a post on their official club website this afternoon.

It has been reported that Aleixandri has signed a four-year deal with Barcelona. The move sees the player return to the club where she spent her youth and early days of her senior career. She will officially return home when she becomes a free agent on 1 July 2025.

Aleixandri spent three seasons with latest club Manchester City after joining The Cityzens from Atlético Madrid back in summer 2022. The defender went on to make 88 appearances for Manchester City in all competitions in which she scored three goals. Despite performing to her best levels week-on-week at Manchester City, she was unable to win a trophy during her time in England.

News of Aleixandri’s Barcelona return comes as no surprise. The player has long been linked with a move back to the Spanish club with rumours first surfacing early last season. Barca have long been admirers of the Spanish international and they have now been able to get a deal over the line.

Aleixandri will be hoping to help her new club continue their domestic dominance next season, as well as challenging for European glory once more.
