Fabrizio Romano Claims Arsenal Are“Very Confident And Optimistic”On New Contract For Real Madrid-Wanted Star

Reliable journalist Fabrizio Romano has said that Arsenal are “confident” of getting Myles Lewis-Skelly to sign a new contract.

The 18-year-old defender broke out into Mikel Arteta’s side this past season, making 42 appearances in all competitions. He quickly became the first choice left back at the Emirates, and has even made his first England appearance amid his form for Arsenal.

However, for all that has been good this year for Lewis-Skelly, the left-back is yet to sign a new contract with Arsenal. His current deal is due to expire next summer, and the Gunners will want to ensure that they have him penned down for the foreseeable future.

Especially seeing as reports from Spain have claimed that Real Madrid are keeping an eye on Lewis-Skelly’s contract situation, and would be willing to offer him a move to the Spanish capital should Arsenal fail to extend his contract at the Emirates.

However, Fabrizio Romano has said that Arsenal are “confident” of getting a deal done for the English defender. He said on his YouTube Channel: “The player is out of contract in one year, so a massive opportunity on the market when you look at that with the current situation. But behind the scenes it’s important to mention one thing, first point, you know Real Madrid are always attentive to opportunities, Real Madrid started working on Trent’s deal a long time ago, putting their eyes on the situation of the player.”

“Real Madrid always do that, when there is an opportunity, when there is a talent, when there is a good player, so this is Real Madrid’s style, it’s normal to be informed, but my information is that Arsenal are very calm, very relaxed, very confident and optimistic to get a new deal done for Miles Lewis Skelly.

“There is a conversation ongoing, the conversation involves people close to the player, the family of the player. We have a new director now, Andrea Berta, who arrived a few months ago, so a conversation that started before the general transfer window and then restarted with Andrea Berta as director, but going very well, so the talks are underway.”

Arsenal also working to sign Thomas Partey

Lewis-Skelly isn’t the only Gunner in contract talks at the moment. It has also been reported that midfielder Thomas Partey is in talks over a new short-term deal after his contract expired at the end of the season.

Partey is also reportedly speaking with Barcelona over a potential deal, but he is willing to stay at Arsenal. It is not yet understood whether Arsenal have made him an offer, but the Gunners are expected to at some point.

The Ghana international played a big role in Arteta’s side last season, making 52 appearances in all competitions, including scoring four goals and providing three assists.
