**Heading into the summer transfer window, it was widely believed that Newcastle United's priority target would be Brentford's Bryan Mbeumo.**
Newcastle had earmarked Mbeumo early on last season as a player they wanted at St James' Park, and then the Cameroon international went on to have the best season of his career, attracting interest from elsewhere too, giving Newcastle a bit of a headache.
The Magpies were offered hope when it seemed to come down to them and Manchester United given that Mbeumo had spoken about wanting to play for a team in the Champions League.
However, money talks and when Man United bowed to his mental wage demands, a move to Manchester United looked to be on.

Since then, however, Brentford manager Thomas Frank has left his position at the Bees to become the new boss of Tottenham Hotspur and now the feeling is that Mbeumo would opt to join Spurs over Manchester United to be reunited with Thomas Frank should the opportunity arise.
Spurs are, of course, in next year's Champions League after beating Manchester United in the Europa League final.
Despite all the speculation, Mbeumo is remaining tight-lipped while things are still in the air.
Bryan Mbeumo was spotted by the Sky Sports cameras at the Montreal Grand Prix and was approached for comments. While the 25-year-old wouldn't speculate on his future, he did speak of the speculation.
> "It (transfer speculation) is a bit new for me I would say!"I think it can be the life of a footballer, and you need to accept it.

> "It's been my best season so far in the Premier League. And even collectively, I think we did play very good games. I think we've been unlucky to chase the Europe spot, but I think it's been a fantastic season."
