Celtics Looking to Make Major Move Early in NBA Offseason: Report

The Boston Celtics were dealt two brutal blows in their second-round playoff series against the New York Knicks. Not only did they lose the series and were eliminated from the playoffs, but they also saw superstar forward Jayson Tatum go down with a torn Achilles.

Tatum is going to miss most of, if not all of, the 2025-26 NBA season. He is attacking his rehab process hard, but Achilles injuries are hard to return from.

Heading into the offseason, the Celtics are going to be a very interesting team to watch.

First and foremost, there have been rumblings that Boston could make an aggressive trade or two to cut costs. The Celtics are also a team who is looking to make another major move.

Boston would like to trade up in the 2025 NBA Draft.

According to a report from Grant Afseth of RG, the Celtics are among the group of teams looking to make a move up in the draft. Afseth also mentioned that the Oklahoma City Thunder and Brooklyn Nets are also looking to make a move up.

"Boston holds picks No. 28 and 32 and has been discreet in its evaluation of point guard prospects," Afseth wrote. "Oklahoma City holds picks No. 15 and 24 along with a deep stockpile of assets. Brooklyn is considered one of the most aggressive teams in the trade market, holding four first-round picks (Nos. 8, 19, 26, and 27)."

How far up is Boston looking to move? That is the question. There have been rumors about the Celtics having major interest in Cooper Flagg, but trading up to No. 1 overall with the Dallas Mavericks would be incredibly expensive.

In the middle of the first round, there are plenty of players who could turn into high-impact pieces. Boston would not need to move up to the top-five to get a player who could be a long-term addition.

Potential names to keep an eye on as trade chips for the Celtics are Derrick White, Jrue Holiday, Kristaps Porzingis, and possibly even Jaylen Brown in the right trade. They are going to be mentioned in a ton of rumors when the offseason gets underway.

Expect to hear a lot more about Boston in the near future. For now, the Celtics are interested in trading up and will be involved in discussions leading up to the NBA Draft, which is set to begin on June 25.
