Chelsea boss opens up about goalkeeper situation

Chelsea are reported to sign a new goalkeeper. They were close to sign Mike Maignan but that deal has collapsed. Now, Enzo Maresca has opened up about the situation and future plans.

Chelsea are not impressed with Robert Sanchez. The Spaniard has leaked multiple goals last season. He has caused multiple errors which have costed the Blues. Hence, the West London club are said to move-on from him.

On the other hand, Filip Jorgensen is still very young. He lacked experience and hence can’t be trusted with starting role. As a result, the new goalkeeper can be looked upon as top priority. The West London club were already close to sign a world-class keeper.

Chelsea were close to sign Mike Maignan. The French keeper had agreed personal terms with the Blues. But, an agreement was not reached between the Blues and AC Milan. This resulted in failure of deal before the deadline of 10th June.

Chelsea boss opens up about goalkeeper signing

Enzo Maresca has been asked about their goalkeeper signing. The Italian has spoken up about the current situation at the club. In addition, he has highlighted on their future plans. As of now, he is trusting some of the current stars whereas others are missing.

“Robert (Sanchez) is number one, we have Filip (Jorgensen) as number two. Penders joins us in the final weeks to analyse, judge him and take a final decision. Then for Maignan of different players, I don’t think it’s worth talking about them” – Maresca’s response as reported by Football Transfers.

Maresca’s comments are lacking names of two keepers. Firstly, it is Djordje Petrovic who was superb in recent season. However, he it seems that has no future at Stamford Bridge. Lastly, it is Kepa who was very good for Bournemouth in Premier League. He will join Arsenal for only £5 million this summer.
