Patriots continue to reshape front office, analytics department

The Patriots continue to reshape their front office under Mike Vrabel and Eliot Wolf.

According to a source, the Patriots have hired two new scouting assistants and added a new member to their analytics department. The team is bringing in Cam McCormick (scouting assistant), Ben Langford (scouting assistant), and Max Mulitz (personnel analytics coordinator).

Mulitz comes to New England from the Miami Dolphins where he worked as the team’s director of coaching analytics from 2021-2024. He also worked in Miami as a football analyst (2018) and manager of coaching analytics (2019 and 2020).

A graduate of Brown University, he first worked in the NFL for the Philadelphia Eagles in 2015 as a full-time intern in the data research department. Mulitz then finished his master’s in data science at George Washington.

Under Vrabel, the Patriots have invested in the analytics department. The team recently hired director of coaching analytics Ekene Olekanma who joins director of football strategy Marshall Oium and director of research Richard Miller.

“We want to use technology to the best of our ability and what we can do to help us be more efficient, to help us make better decisions, informed decisions,” Vrabel said this offseason. “I don’t think you can rely and base every decision off the numbers, but I also think that those are important to ask questions and then be able to follow up and come to a sound decision on everything that we do.

“Personnel, coaching decisions, player health and safety, strength and conditioning, every aspect of our program,” he added. “Hopefully, we’ll have some analytical background and data that we can rely on that they can ask questions. When you look at coaching, self-scout, and opponent breakdown, how we become more efficient with that system.”

McCormick, who announced his hiring on Instagram, is known for having nine years of college eligibility. The 27-year-old started his collegiate career at Oregon (2016-2022) and finished at Miami (2023-2024). McCormick was granted three exemptions due to multiple season-ending injuries. He played in 13 games last season for Miami, catching six passes for 42 yards and three touchdowns.

His connection with the Patriots stems from that time with the Hurricanes. The team’s general manager was Alonzo Highsmith, who left the program in 2024 to come to New England to work as a Patriots personnel executive.

Langford comes to the Patriots from New Mexico Highlands University, a Division II program. Langford was the team’s linebackers coach and co-special teams coordinator last season. He joined the program after serving in the Army from 2019-2023. Before that, Langford coached at Eastern New Mexico.
