'Could actually be done': Journalist says Arsenal could sign £70m striker this month in exciting update

Arsenal are expected to strengthen their squad this summer ahead of the new season.

The Gunners have finished second in the Premier League for three consecutive seasons, once again ending the season without a trophy despite spending heavily in the transfer market.

They fell short in attack last season and it is an area Mikel Arteta is keen to address in this window.

Two strikers have been most strongly linked with a move to the Emirates: Viktor Gyokeres and Benjamin Sesko.

Arsenal expected to conclude Benjamin Sesko deal this month

Gyokeres is a name on Arteta’s radar, with Arsenal reportedly tabling a bid to sign Gyokeres. However, that bid fell short of Sporting’s expectations, causing an internal rift between the club and the player.

Arsenal are also strongly linked with Sesko, who is considered a favourite to move to the Emirates this summer.

Andrea Berta’s strategy is to work on both deals simultaneously before advancing on one in the later stages, which could see a potential deal get delayed.

Journalist Ben Jacobs has now revealed when the Gunners can wrap up the signing of Sesko.

When asked to put a time frame on when Arsenal can conclude a deal for Sesko, Jacobs told talkSPORT:

“Well, I think it also comes down to the player. If they agree a fee for Sesko, I think that one could actually be done when the window opens on the 16th of June.

“I’m not saying day one of when the window reopens, but certainly in the last two weeks of this month.”

Benjamin Sesko would be a fantastic signing for Arsenal

Sesko would no doubt be an excellent signing for Arsenal, who have really missed a proper striker in the team.

The 22-year-old will not come cheap but TBR Football has previously stated that the move will be less than his official release clause. Arsenal hope a deal could be around £60million, but it is likely to be closer to £70m.

Mikel Arteta prefers to sign Sesko over Gyokeres, and Sesko is also keen on joining the North London club.

Sesko, who has been backed for greatness, had a fantastic season in the Bundesliga, scoring 21 goals and assisting six in 45 games across all competitions. His overall record for the club stands at 39 goals and eight assists in 87 games.

While his numbers may not be as good as Gyokeres, he is just 22 and judging from his performances, he may well be on the path to becoming a top-class striker.
