The Cameroonian has been a source of interest for several Premier League clubs, including Tottenham and Newcastle, but it is the Red Devils who appear to be in the hot seat.
Mbeumo has long been a crucial piece of the jigsaw for the Bees since he joined the club in 2019, but when Ivan Toney left in 2024, he stepped up to become the main man in attack, finishing the following Premier League campaign with 20 goals from the right-hand side.
It is on that side of the pitch where the forward would be expected to feature under Ruben Amorim, slotting in as the right-sided number 10. It should come as no surprise that it was the Egyptian King who walked away with the best goal record of the three players. While Saka is a tremendous talent in his own right, he is not known to be as clinical in front of goal as his counterparts. And though Mbeumo's 20 goals for a mid-table Brentford team were incredibly impressive, it doesn't come close to touching Salah's 29, which he bagged en route to a record-breaking season.
However, that doesn't tell the full story. When it comes to accuracy, it was Mbeumo who topped the charts with the best shot accuracy and conversion rate of the trio. That, combined with the fact that he was the only player to score from outside the box, could give United fans some hope that even if the club fails to land a top-tier number nine to go alongside him, they may still have enough potency thanks to the Cameroonian's potential arrival.

Moving on to how the three players fare when it comes to creating chances for their teammates. While Mbeumo and Salah are the strongest marksmen, it is the Gunners' star boy who seems to have the edge in terms of his selflessness. The England international may have only managed 10 Premier League assists to Salah's 18, but when you consider the time he was out injured, the gulf is certainly not as wide as it seems on the surface.
Furthermore, Saka also created more chances per 90 on average, with the same also being said when it comes to putting crosses on a plate for anyone looking to meet the ball in the air. In fact, in this category, it is only through balls where the 23-year-old doesn't take top honours on a per 90 minute basis.

Where the biggest difference between Mbeumo and his world-class opponents appears to lie is in his work in possession. To his credit, the Cameroonian is the strongest when it comes to ball recoveries per 90. But when it comes to his work with the ball at his feet, he doesn't compare to Salah and Saka, who split most of the key criteria between them.
The Liverpool star leads the way in touches in the opposition box and aerial duel success rate. Meanwhile, Saka has the better passing accuracy, take-ons completed and successful, and the lowest number of times losing the ball per game. And of the aforementioned stats that Mbeumo doesn't come out on top in, he ranks last in four of them.

It is clear where Mbeumo's strengths lie. The Cameroonian may not be a typical goalscorer, but his record suggests that he is on par with the great Salah when it comes to finishing ability. You could argue that this will be given a chance to flourish further at a team with more attacking intent, but given the way United have struggled to create good opportunities of late, the opposite may be true.
Regardless, there is still room to grow. It is too far of a stretch to say he will show the levels of quality and consistency that Salah and Saka have had, just as it is a push to suggest he will reach their level as a player. But in terms of his contributions and efficiency, he could certainly put himself in that bracket, making him a no-brainer for United to chase. They just have to act soon before someone else makes a strong move themselves.
