Chelsea star Moises Caicedo has spoken about the prospect of losing the accolade as being the most expensive signing in Premier League history this summer.
The Blues signed Caicedo from Brighton in the summer of 2023 in a deal worth £115million, which broke the record for the highest transfer fee in British football history.
Caicedo has since gone on to make 93 appearances for Chelsea and played a key role in helping the club win the Conference league last season and finish fourth in the Premier League to qualify for the Champions League.
Almost two years on from Caicedo's move to Stamford Bridge, it seems that the record transfer fee paid by Chelsea could be broken this summer, reports the Liverpool Echo.
Various reports have claimed that Liverpool have agreed a deal to sign Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen. it has been claimed that the Reds will pay an initial fee worth £100million, with the possibility of £16million more in add-ons.
If all add-ons are met on the deal, the transfer would reach £116million and leapfrog the fee paid by Chelsea to sign Caicedo two years ago. Now, the Blues midfielder has spoken for the first time about the possibility of Wirtz's arrival breaking the record.
"I didn't know Liverpool were going to pay that," Caicedo said, via Sky Sports News. "It's good (that Wirtz could cost £1 million more than him), it's good."
"Yeah he's a great player. I think everybody watching [can see] how he plays he's a very good player. So I'm happy to hear he's [coming] to the Premier League."
Caicedo is currently with the Chelsea squad in the United States as they prepare to take part in the FIFA Club World Cup this summer.
The Blues will play their first match of the tournament on Monday night as they face LAFC at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia.
