Chelsea Ready£85M Move for West Ham’s Mohammed Kudus

Chelsea are shortlisted to sign West Ham midfielder Mohammed Kudus this summer. The Blues are reportedly eyeing the Ghanaian international, who has become one of the prominent transfer targets, ahead of some expected Stamford Bridge exits. Notably, there exists an £85 million release clause for Kudus, only available to Premier League clubs.

West Ham bought Kudus from Ajax for an initial fee of £38 million in August 2023, and he has excelled with 19 goals and 13 assists overall in 80 games. His versatility to play as an attack-minded midfielder, out wide, or upfront has established him as one of the Premier League’s most exciting stars. Meanwhile, the Blues are eager for fast attacking cover in the wake of Jadon Sancho’s return to Manchester United, and have Kudus on their list.

Chelsea have already made their opening bid. They tried to assemble a player-plus-cash bid that included goalkeeper Robert Sanchez, but West Ham rejected it shortly after. The Blues are leaving the negotiations open and are happy to come back with another bid that takes them closer to the full amount.

Other Clubs are Interested in Mohammed Kudus

They are not alone in the chase. Newcastle United, Arsenal, and Liverpool are also hot on Kudus’ heels. Atletico Madrid, Manchester City, and AC Milan are also interested. However, The Blues are favorites, encouraged by their early advances and eagerness to meet West Ham’s price.

West Ham, however, are said to be willing to release Kudus only if their valuation is met before the clause expires. With a dream of playing in the Champions League and working under Endo Maresca, Kudus may have a keen intention to move quickly.

The upcoming transfer window is going to be decisive. West Ham cannot prevent the Blues from signing the player, as long as they are able to activate the release clause within that window. They are also serious and well-placed to sign Kudus as their next big-name acquisition after their move for Liam Delap.
