Manchester United’s relentless pursuit of Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo has prompted Chelsea legend Frank Leboeuf to urge his former side to secure the striker. Mbeumo scored 20 goals and assisted seven times in the 2024–25 Premier League season and could be on his way to Old Trafford.
United will likely return with a better offer for Brentford after their initial bid of £45m was turned down. It’s claimed that Mbeumo is keen on the switch, at least partially because Cameroon international teammate Andre Onana is at the club. He is also drawn to working under Ruben Amorim and will enjoy the prestige of playing with the Red Devils.
However, Leboeuf feels that the Blues must move quickly to secure the 25-year-old. He insisted that the player would fit in well at Stamford Bridge in an interview with ESPN FC:
“I was wondering why Bryan Mbeumo doesn’t want to come to Chelsea. Was it a possibility or not? Maybe he knows better but I would have loved to see him at Chelsea and think he would have been very good for the club.”
Manchester United Continue to Work in the Transfer Market
The Red Devils have already signed £ 62.5 million-rated Matheus Cunha from Wolves as Amorim starts shaping a side that ended last term in 15th place. The intention is to sell several attacking players. They are expected to sacrifice the services of Marcus Rashford, Antony, and Alejandro Garnacho.
Mbeumo, with his pace and intensity, is seen as such a large asset and would be enhanced by Amorim’s high work-rate game. He would be able to complement the attack with Cunha in a new and vibrant front line.
While Manchester United seems increasingly confident of their prize, Leboeuf’s words capture a longer issue among Chelsea fans. The Blues’ attack remains unbalanced despite the addition of Liam Delap, and Mbeumo’s proven Premier League credentials make him an attractive prospect.
