What's next for OU's 2026 wide receiver room after missing on local 4-star Mason James?

NORMAN – Norman (Ok.) North 2026 wide receiver Mason James announced his college football decision on Thursday, where he chose the Washington Huskies over Oklahoma, Missouri, Texas, Kansas State and Arizona State.

As a junior this past season for Norman North, James put up some ridiculous stats, hauling in 56 receptions for 1,233 yards and 17 TDs. Combine his productivity with his solid frame, soft hands and outstanding speed (10.86 100 meters as a sophomore) and you can see why he's so highly regarded by both recruiting services as well as college coaching staffs. Oklahoma, his in-town, in-state school, was the first to make him an offer, which came after his outstanding sophomore season. For that reason, James said Oklahoma will always have a place in his heart. The Sooners were the first to make the push for him, but in the end, Washington fit more of what he wanted with his college career.

"So I picked Washington because I feel like that was the best fit for me and my family," James told Sooners Illustrated just after his commitment to Washington on Thursday. "They took care of me not just on the field but off the field also. I feel like Coach Fitch is a great thing going offensively.
