Stat Reveals Concerning Trend For Chargers’ Receivers

The Los Angeles Chargers’ offense looked quite different last season.

As expected, new head coach Jim Harbaugh and offensive coordinator Greg Roman featured a run-heavy approach.

That didn’t bode well for quarterback Justin Herbert’s numbers, but the team boasted its most balanced and efficient offense in years.

However, some of Herbert’s statistics also suffered because of his supporting cast.

“Chargers star QB Justin Herbert had 25 passes dropped by his receivers this past season,” Dov Kleiman wrote on X.

That might be fair to an extent, but it’s not like Herbert doesn’t have some solid targets.

If anything, his numbers trended up once rookie Ladd McConkey got a bigger role in the second half of the season, and he should be their primary pass-catcher right out of the gate in Year 2.

They also have a solid and proven veteran in Mike Williams.

But Quentin Johnston has yet to live up to expectations.

Though he boasts big-play potential because of his speed, he’s struggled with shaky hands since entering the league as a first-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.

The Chargers should be a run-heavy team again this season, especially after drafting potential three-down running back Omarion Hampton and bringing in Najee Harris as a free agent.

Herbert’s numbers might not be as impressive as long as Harbaugh and Roman are calling the shots, but that pairing and a balanced offense will most definitely give the Chargers a better chance at Super Bowl contention.
