There are pros and cons to Newcastle United selling Anthony Gordon this summer.
Gordon joined Newcastle United from Everton in January 2023 and was brilliant in his first full season for the club during the 2023/24 campaign.
Last time out, however, proved more difficult for the England international amid speculation over his future, injury issues and a high-profile red card.
Liverpool could make a £100million move for Gordon this summer and that would certainly give Newcastle owners PIF something to think about.

Winners if Anthony Gordon joins Liverpool for £100m
PIF
The Newcastle United owners would rake in a huge profit if they sold the winger. Newcastle paid £45million to sign Gordon, so potentially stand to more than double their money.
Newcastle are being cautious in the transfer market this summer as they don’t want to have to sell players further down the line. That, however, just cannot continue forever. At some point, a decision needs to be made.
While cashing in on Gordon is hardly something the club should embrace, it could help fund a rebuild of the team.
Letting him go is much more palatable than choosing to sell Alexander Isak.

Harvey Barnes
Harvey Barnes would be the obvious big winner if Gordon goes to Liverpool.
In that event, he’d surely become the first choice option out on the left, having already moved ahead of Gordon in the pecking order at times last season.
Barnes scored nine goals in 17 starts last season. He’s proven himself capable and, frankly, deserved to start ahead of Gordon more often.
Having two left wingers in the squad is brilliant for squad depth but banking £100million for Gordon in a PSR world while Barnes is more than able to start regularly arguably feels like too good an opportunity to turn down.

Eddie Howe
Eddie Howe has been annoyed at Newcastle’s best players being linked away, so it’s perhaps fair to say he could be even more irritated if one actually leaves.
Ahead of a Champions League campaign, it’s hard to imagine the Newcastle United manager wanting any of his key players to depart.
Howe has been brilliant for Gordon and the level of his quality would suggest last season’s relatively inconsistent performances were more of an anomaly than anything.
While selling Gordon would raise money for new signings, it’s incredibly hard to imagine Howe actively wanting the club to get rid of him.
Newcastle United fans
Gordon has been a fan favourite at times, despite a difficult time of things during the season just gone.
To watch him hit his straps elsewhere would be painful for supporters. They stuck by him during an underwhelming first few months at the club and leaving after only two full seasons would be hugely disappointing.
That’s not to say the benefits aren’t worth considering, just that it’d feel as if Gordon would be leaving with unfinished business were he to depart this summer.
If Liverpool really are willing to pay £100million for his services, whatever the decision the club come to would be huge.
