Man United are hoping to sign a striker this summer, and have been linked to several world-class goal scorers.

The Red Devils have been linked with several top strikers, including Hugo Ekitike from Frankfurt, Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyokeres and Napoli striker Victor Osimhen. All three have seen interest from elsewhere too though, meaning that United will have to battle to sign whichever one they choose.

Al-Hilal set to offer huge wage bill to Victor Osimhen

If United decide that Osimhen is the striker they want to sign this summer, they will have to compete with Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal, who have already agreed to pay Osimhen’s release clause.

However, the Nigerian international has already rejected a move to the Saudi club, as he wants to stay in Europe and play at the top level, which is a huge boost for Manchester United. But, it has now been reported that Al-Hilal are stepping up their efforts to sign him.

According to a report by Goal.com, Al-Hilal are set to improve their €30m per year wage offer to Osimhen up to a €50m yearly salary, hoping that they can tempt the 26-year-old to join them rather than hold out for a move to someone such as Manchester United. It equates to a stunning £42m per year.

Chelsea had also previously been linked with the Napoli striker; however, they instead secured the signing of Liam Delap, and reported interest from the Blues has waned since then.

Last season, Osimhen was on fire in the Turkish league, scoring 26 goals in 30 league games for Galatasaray. He has been one of the most clinical goal scorers in Europe over the past few seasons, hence why he wants to remain at the top level without going to Saudi Arabia just yet. But the promise of a €50m per year wage bill, may be too hard to turn down.

Man United stepping up their efforts to sign Hugo Ekitike

Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal have all been linked to Ekitike too, with the three clubs able to offer the Frenchman Champions League football, something that United can’t offer him.

The 22-year-old is a younger, less proven option compared to the likes of Gyokeres and Osimhen, but he is very tall, athletic and has shown that he can deliver at the top level, as he did last season in the Bundesliga.

It is unclear yet whether Ekitike is willing to move to United as they don’t have European football, but either way, it seems that the Red Devils are stepping up their pursuit of the French target man.
