The Jacksonville Jaguars did a superb job of adding playmakers and depth the past few months. This has, in turn, created a logjam at a handful of position groups and will force several players to compete for a roster spot.
This means that unless the following five players don't make a strong impression in training camp, they may not be on the roster after cutdown day.
De'Antre Prince, Jaguars cornerback
Cornerback was one of the Jaguars' biggest needs in the offseason, so it wasn't particularly surprising to see them sign Jourdan Lewis in free agency and later draft Travis Hunter. Couple that with Montaric Brown's strong offseason, and the position is no longer a weakness. On the other hand and given how stacked the Jags are at cornerback, De'Antre Prince could end up being a victim of the numbers game.
Prince, a fifth-round pick in 2024, barely played as a rookie and hasn't done much of note during the offseason program. He still has a bit of time to make an impression, but his odds don't look particularly great ahead of training camp.
Louis Rees-Zammit, Jaguars wide receiver
A professional rugby player, Louis Rees-Zammit chose to join the NFL International Pathway Program a try and give football a shot. The move made sense when you take into account that he has intriguing physical traits. Unfortunately, he hasn't been able to turn that potential into production just yet.
Rees-Zammit was claimed by the Jags after getting waived by the Kansas City Chiefs last year. After having mostly spent the 2024 season in the practice squad, he was signed to a future contract early in 2025. However, he was reverted back to the Exempt International Player list to free up a roster spot after the draft. Barring a sudden surge in training camp, it's hard to see Penarth, United Kingdom native make the team.
Javon Foster, Jaguars offensive lineman
A healthy scratch throughout most of his rookie campaign, Javon Foster is running out of chances to show out. A fourth-round pick in last year's draft, he's been an afterthought after the additions of Fred Johnson and Chuma Edoga in free agency. Add the fact that Cole Van Lanen signed a restricted free agent tender, and Foster could be on the outside looking in ahead of training camp.
Yasir Abdullah, Jaguars defensive end
Dubbed a potential draft gem in 2023, Yasir Abdullah has been a non-factor the past two years. That's mostly because he lacked the size to be an edge defender in the pros. After playing standup pass rusher as a rookie, the former Louisville Cardinal made the switch to off-linebacker last season, but it didn't make much of a difference.
With a new coaching staff in place, Abdullah is now listed as a defensive end. He might have trouble making the cut behind Travon Walker, Josh Hines-Allen, Emmanuel Ogbah, Myles Cole, Dennis Gardick, and Dawuane Smoot.
Daniel Thomas, Jaguars safety
It's not that Daniel Thomas is a bad player. He could simply turn out the be the odd man out of a safety room that includes Eric Murray, Antonio Johnson, Andrew Wingard, Caleb Ransaw, and Rayuan Lane III.
Murray is slated to start. Johnson and Wingard made plays in minicamp, and the team's brass likes Ransaw's skill set. Of course, Thomas could end up making the roster because of his special-teams prowess, but the $1.8 million in space Jacksonville could create if it releases him may be too tempting to pass.
