Former Penn State All-American, Bills legend dies at 85

Pennsylvania native and Buffalo Bills legend Stew Barber has died, [the Bills have announced](https://www.buffalobills.com/news/bills-remember-two-time-afl-champ-stew-barber-upon-his-passing). He was 85 years old.

Barber died on Wednesday, June 11 at his home in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, just three days before his 86th birthday.

Barber was born in Bradford, Pa. on June 14, 1939. He went on to attend Bradford Area High School, before starring at [Penn State](https://www.pennlive.com/pennstatefootball/).

He was an All-American offensive tackle for the Nittany Lions, before being drafted by the Buffalo Bills in the 1961 AFL Draft.

Stew Barber went on to help the Bills to AFL titles in 1964 and 1965. He started off as an outside linebacker for the Bills, recording three interceptions, including a pick-six, as a rookie. He then moved to offensive tackle, becoming one of the best in the AFL.

In addition to helping the Bills to two AFL titles, he also earned two first-team All-AFL honors and made the AFL All-Star game five consecutive times during his career.

Barber retired following the 1969 season, having missed only one game over the course of his AFL career.

Stew Barber met his wife Vicki during his time at Penn State. The two went on to have five daughters.
