The Orlando Magic have been progressing the past two seasons, but they're ready to take things to the next level. After losing to the Boston Celtics in the first round of the playoffs, president Jeff Weltman made it clear that the team would do what it had to in order to be more competitive next season and get over the hump.
It looks like Weltman stuck to his word, because on Sunday morning, the Magic made a trade with the Memphis Grizzlies to acquire Desmond Bane in return for Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Cole Anthony, four first-round picks, and a pick swap.

On Monday, Weltman broke his silence about the trade, and he seems excited to have Bane a part of the team.
“We are very thrilled to welcome Desmond to the Orlando Magic family,” Weltman said. “Over his five years in the NBA, Desmond has distinguished himself as one of the elite guards in our league, and we look forward to his shooting, IQ and wide-ranging skill set in helping our team take a step forward. Desmond’s character is held in high regard across the league and we believe he will fit seamlessly with our existing players both on and off the court.”
Bane brings playoff experience to the team, and also other intabgibles that the Magic were missing. After being one of the worst 3-point shooting teams in the league, Bane will be able to help in that department as he's a career 41% shooter behind the arc.
Not only can Bane shoot, but he's also a solid defender and can make plays for others.
