Since Graham Potter’s arrival, Emerson Palmieri has been a bit par player with Ollie Scarles starting in his left- sided role from Potter’s first game in charge. Selling Emerson so soon after Cresswell’s departure is a big statement of trust in Ollie Scarles who will then be the only left-sided defender at the club. Surely not a permanent state of affairs which Potter will allow to continue into the next season but a big vote of confidence in his teenage left back.
Transfer funds are desperately needed but it is unlikely Emerson will yield much more than £8-£10 million-surely less than the cost of an upgrade to replace him.
