It appears Kevin Durant doesn’t want to team up with Anthony Edwards next season. ESPN NBA insider Shams Charania reports the 15-time All-Star “has no desire” to be traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves.
“I’m told Durant has no desire to be in Minnesota with the Timberwolves,” Charania said.

The Phoenix Suns are working with Durant and his team about where the future Hall of Famer will play in the 2025-26 season. One complicating factor is Durant is entering the final year of his $54.7 million contract, and any acquiring team will want to sign him to a long-term deal.
While the Suns have explored multiple options, Charania reports their recent focus has centered on three teams: the Miami Heat, Houston Rockets and Timberwolves.
“I’m told the Phoenix Suns remain in active conversations around the league on the Kevin Durant deal,” Charania reports. “But their focus over the last several days has been on three teams: the Miami Heat, the Houston Rockets and the Minnesota Timberwolves. We know his preferred destinations, though, are the Rockets, Spurs and Heat.”
The Suns, who finished 36-46 and missed the playoffs, attempted to trade Durant to the Golden State Warriors at last season’s deadline. However, Phoenix kept Durant unaware of the trade talks, and when he learned about them, he told the front office he didn’t want to join Golden State and preferred to finish the season in the desert.
Phoenix acquired Durant in February 2023 in a blockbuster deal with the Brooklyn Nets, sending out Mikal Bridges, Cam Johnson, Jae Crowder, four unprotected first-round picks and a 2028 pick swap.
Durant helped lead the Suns to the Western Conference Semifinals in 2023, but Phoenix lost in the first round the following year and missed the playoffs entirely this past season.
Durant remains a superstar player but will be 37 when the 2025-26 season begins. His new team can sign him to a two-year, $124 million extension.
