Eagles' offense must prepare for best-case and worst-case scenarios in 2025

While the defense stole the show in 2024, the Philadelphia Eagles' offense was just as explosive and powerful last year.

Most of the damage was done on the ground as the Eagles were ranked second in rushing yards per game with 179.3. The offense overall was ranked seventh with 367.2 yards per game.

Going into 2025, the offense in Philadelphia has not changed significantly, as all but the right guard position features returning starters. A lot can go well with the offense again, but a lot can also go wrong.

What Bleacher Report says the Eagles' best-case and worst-case scenarios are on offense in 2025

Bleacher Report writer Alex Ballentine examined all 32 NFL teams, naming the best-case and worst-case scenarios for each offense. Ballentine's best-case scenario for the Eagles is taking the load off of running back Saquon Barkley and putting more on quarterback Jalen Hurts' back.

"The Eagles owed a ton of their offensive success to Saquon Barkley and the run game last season. He had a transformative season, and Jalen Hurts went from 31.6 pass attempts per game in 2023 to 24.1 in 2024. The only problem is that the approach just doesn't seem sustainable.

Barkley had 345 carries and led the league with a total of 378 touches. Going into his age-28 season, there's legitimate concern about his workload.

The ideal situation for Philadelphia would be to put a little more back on Hurts' plate. They have the offensive line to be a ground-and-pound team, but it's in the long-term interest of the unit to get a little more into the passing game this season. Finding a third receiver after A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith would help."

Hurts is no stranger to throwing the ball at a high volume, as he threw the ball 538 times in 2023. That did not yield good results, as he threw a career-high 15 interceptions.

Yes, being able to throw the football would help the offense, but it is more about less carries for Barkley and more with the other backs. The Eagles need either A.J. Dillon or Will Shipley step up as the backup and take touches away from Barkley (in a good way of course).

Looking at Ballentine's worst-case scenario for the Eagles' offense, it's precisely the point made before, as Barkley ends up getting injured and Hurts has to do too much.

"It's hard to see how things could go completely off the rails, but the Eagles are putting quite a bit into the Barkley basket. He already has an injury history and he's coming off the biggest workload of his career. Should he break down, then the team might have to lean a little too much on the pass game.

Hurts had a career-high 538 passing attempts in 2023, and it played a role in the Eagles' late-season collapse. They know firsthand how important it is to nail a coordinator hire and Nick Sirianni's decision to promote Kevin Patullo could be tested if Barkley can't hold up for 17 games."

2023 is a prime example of why Hurts shouldn't be throwing the ball a crazy amount of times. The Eagles need to get production out of not only Barkley, but also Dillon and Shipley out of the backfield.

One lesson, though, that Patullo can learn from former offensive coordinator Brian Johnson is to be unpredictable and creative with play calling. Johnson ran way too many bubble screens and let Hurts force the ball downfield. Patullo needs to keep it simple at the end of the game with high percentage completions.

This offense is loaded with explosive talent from Hurts to Barkley to A.J. Brown to DeVonta Smith. Not many defenses are going to be able to slow down this unit as long as everything goes according to plan for Philadelphia.
