Manchester City's shocking Tino Livramento transfer stance as Newcastle United stand firm

Newcastle United defender Tino Livramento continues to be linked with a move to Manchester City this summer.

Pep Guardiola is in the market for a new right-back, having already strengthened his squad with the additions of Rayan Ait-Nouri, Tijjani Reijnders and Rayan Cherki. Manchester City want Livramento too, as they look to continue this wave of fresh investment.

Unfortunately for Man City, Newcastle do not want to sell Livramento. On top of that, Livramento does not want to leave Newcastle.

All roads appear to lead towards the 22-year-old remaining on Tyneside, but that is not the perception at the Etihad Stadium.

Manchester City’s ‘misguided’ interest in Tino Livramento continues

That is according to TBR Football’s chief correspondent Graeme Bailey, who has spoken to Geordie Boot Boys about Manchester City’s continued interest in Tino Livramento.

“They are still keen, and think there is a possibility there,” he said.

“Whether or not that is misguided, I think Newcastle would tell us that it is.

“Manchester City do think they can possibly still get him, but that is purely from their end.

Why Newcastle United are in a commanding position regarding Tino Livramento

Regardless of Manchester City’s stance, it is Newcastle United who are in the driving seat. They will determine Livramento’s fate, and are in no mood to cash in on the young defender.

He only arrived at St James’ Park in August 2023, arriving from Southampton for an initial £32million. While Paul Mitchell thinks Newcastle overpaid for Livramento, he has proven to be a worthwhile investment.

He is already an outstanding player, while the scope to get even better is clear for all to see. Combine that with his ability to play on the right and the left, and it is not difficult to understand why Guardiola wants Livramento in his squad.

But he is going to remain with Eddie Howe. If Newcastle were to sell Livramento, it would take a massive fee. He has improved since his £32million move to Tyneside, while he has a contract until 2028.

While Manchester City might think they can sign Livramento, actually doing it is a different matter.
