Glenn Clears Air on Breece Hall Trade Rumors

New York Jets running back Breece Hall has had a rollercoaster of a tenure in East Rutherford. Between inconsistencies at quarterback and offensive line, a major knee injury, and his recent struggles, Hall is in murky waters with the fanbase.

The front office and coaching staff, though, seem to be very high on Hall, even with Braelon Allen and Isaiah Adams earning significant praise.

Several factors have made Hall expendable via trade. Paramount is his decline from near-elite back to a non-needle-moving starter. He’s also entering a contract year, didn’t separate himself from the rest of the backfield, and has enough potential to get teams interested.

Nevertheless, the team isn’t keen on trading him. Head coach Aaron Glenn addressed the Jets’ trade rumors surrounding Hall.

”Hall's name surfaced in trade rumors around the draft,” Rich Cimini wrote. “It got so loud that Glenn called Hall to put his mind at ease. According to Hall, Glenn told him, ‘I don't want to trade you. I want you to be here. You're going to be our running back.’

“The Jets want to be a run-oriented offense, so it wouldn't have made sense to trade their most accomplished back. It could be a different story around the mid-season trading deadline. If they fall out of contention, Hall will be a prime candidate to be dealt. We already know how much Glenn likes Allen and Davis.”

Glenn looks to be on the right side of his roster, especially the stars that the team could look to extend. That starts with receiver Garrett Wilson and corner Sauce Gardner but extends to Hall.

With that said, there could be a gap between Hall, who at his best is capable of setting the market, and his current trend. If negotiations go south, the rumor mill will continue to churn.

It’s also worth noting that quarterback Justin Fields should be a massive upgrade for Hall, allowing the Jets to run the ball more and weaponize the passer’s gravity. He’s in line for a rebound, and it would be quite timely for the running back.

If all goes well, there’s a world in which New York extends him. However, trading Hall is a conversation New York must have if the offense sputters before the trade deadline. For now, the Jets have no losses to their name and an incentive to make their stars happy. Until that changes, New York shouldn’t be expected to sell off any significant player.
