The Buffalo Bills made an interesting trade last season when the team traded for Cleveland Browns star wide receiver Amari Cooper.
Buffalo traded away a 2025 third-round pick for Cooper, and in eight games, Cooper recorded 20 receptions for 297 yards and two scores.
It’s safe to say the Bills didn’t get what they wanted out of Cooper, and now he’s a free agent.
When the Bills traded for Cooper last offseason, the team probably didn’t think they would only get half of a season from Cooper, but with how little he produced and with him turning 31 in June, it was best if the teams moved on.
Buffalo went out and signed some young veteran receivers, Joshua Palmer and Elijah Moore, and they will try to fill the role that Cooper was supposed to fill.
Bills Writer Thinks A Former Player Could Retrun
Cooper isn’t the only former Bills player currently a free agent; defensive tackle Jordan Phillips is still available on the open market.
Anthony Marino from Buffalo Rumblings thinks Phillips could still return to the Bills this season.
“Phillips is the one player I could see returning to Buffalo, perhaps in a role on the practice squad similar to Micah Hyde in 2024, Marino wrote.”
The Bills should think about bringing back Phillips and seeing what he has left in the tank.
Phillips is only 32, so he still should have a few years left before he is ready to retire, and Buffalo could use several players at any single spot.
Buffalo is in a make-or-break year, which means this could be the last time we see the current roster and coaching staff if things don’t get better this season.
Buffalo Needs To Win The Super Bowl
The Bills have been the best team in the NFL over the last five years that haven’t played in a Super Bowl, and a lot of that has to do with their four playoff losses to the Kansas City Chiefs.
Buffalo has tried everything, and if they can’t get past the Chiefs this season, then there could be a shake-up.
Of course, the Bills won’t be parting with Josh Allen, but head coach Sean McDermott could be on the way out.
There might not be a reason to bring McDermott back if the Bills don’t improve in the postseason.
McDermott is a great coach, but sometimes coaches have limits to their game, and right now, the 51-year-old head coach may not be able to reach the Super Bowl.
The Bills must ensure they take the 2025 season as seriously as possible and add any player who can help them win it all this season.
If Buffalo needs a player like Phillips to come in and give competition to the defensive tackle room to make the other players great, then that’s what they need to do.
The Bills will open their season against the Baltimore Ravens, which could be a possible preview of an AFC title game, with both teams having some of the best odds of winning the conference.
