Man United Tipped To Make Move For£34M Rated Shot Stopper Who Was Linked With Arsenal Last Season

Manchester United are keeping tabs on Atalanta goalkeeper Marco Carnesecchi, according to reports in the Italian media.

The Red Devils are scouring the market for a new No.1 and the Corriere della Sera newspaper (Sport Witness) claim that the 24-year-old is one of those who is being “coveted.”

Carnesecchi has been Atalanta’s No.1 since the start of last season, and he helped Le Dea win the Europa League final during his first campaign wearing the gloves.

The shot-stopper has not yet been capped by Italy, but he was on the bench for the Azzurri’s two most recent World Cup qualifiers against Norway and Moldova.

Carnesecchi has been linked with a move to England before

Arsenal were credited with an interest in the Italian keeper last year, but Atalanta were holding out for a fee in the region of €60m (£51m) at the time.

Since then, Carnesecchi has signed a new contract, keeping him in Bergamo until the summer of 2028, but somewhat strangely, the Corriere della Sera claim his price tag is now only €40m (£34m).

That is still a significant fee, but it is not a valuation that would necessarily scare off United if they are serious about making him their top target to replace Andre Onana.

Man United have considered other goalkeepers

Onana’s erratic form has led to Director of Football Jason Wilcox seeking out potential alternatives. In addition to Carnesecchi, the likes of Torino’s Vanja Milinkovic-Savic, Paris Saint-Germain’s Gianluigi Donnarumma, Lille’s Lucas Chevalier, Roma’s Mile Svilar and Barcelona’s Marc-Andre ter Stegen have all been mentioned as options.

Carnesecchi would probably be among the more expensive targets so any approach could have to wait until the end of the summer when Ruben Amorim’s side may have raised funds from player sales.
